Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Portion Size: Makes 4 burgers
Ingredients
For the Burger Patties:
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80% lean for juiciness)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
For Assembly:
- 4 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 4 slices tomato
- 4 slices onion (optional)
- Pickles, as desired
- Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, as desired
Method
- Prepare the Burger Patties:
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic (if using).
- Gently mix to combine, then shape the beef into 4 equal patties, about ¾ inch thick. Press a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.
- Cook the Patties:
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season each side of the patties with salt and pepper.
- Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium, or adjust cooking time based on desired doneness.
- If using cheese, add a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.
- Assemble the Hamburgers:
- Place each cooked patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun.
- Add lettuce, a slice of tomato, onion, and pickles, if desired.
- Top with condiments of your choice (ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise).
- Place the top half of the bun on each burger.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with your favorite sides, such as fries or a salad.
